Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has warned the Presidency, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the judiciary against interfering in the affairs of the party.

Atiku issued the warning after emerging as the ADC presidential flag bearer for the 2027 general election following the party’s primary election.

The former vice president secured victory ahead of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and former banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

In a statement shared on X, Atiku expressed appreciation to party members for giving him the opportunity to lead the ADC into the next election cycle.

He said the party had demonstrated internal democracy at a time when democratic principles were allegedly under threat from the ruling government.

According to him, efforts were made to ensure due process during the formation of the coalition behind the ADC, but he alleged that the government and INEC were still attempting to undermine the party.

“Let me warn that any further attempt to interfere in the affairs of the party by the Presidency, INEC and judiciary will be fiercely resisted. Enough is enough,” Atiku stated.

The ADC candidate also alleged that there were moves to deregister the party, although neither the Presidency nor INEC had officially responded to the claim as of the time of filing this report.

The latest development comes amid rising political tension and renewed alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
