INEC publishes notice of election, timetable for Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, published the notice of election, timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of the Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election.

  • The election is scheduled to hold on June 20 to fill a vacant Senate seat.
  • Political party primaries will take place between May 22 and May 26, with candidate nominations submitted from May 29 to June 2.
  • Campaigns are set to begin on June 10 and end on June 18, ahead of the election.

Resident Electoral Commissioner for Enugu State, Chukwuemeka Chukwu, told newsmen in a press briefing in Enugu, that the bye-election had been scheduled to hold on June 20.

Chukwu noted that the bye-election became necessary to fill the vacant seat representing Enugu North Senatorial District in the Senate.

He noted that the bye-election timetable and schedule included the official publication of the notice of election on May 21 and scheduled conduct of political party primaries between May 22 and May 26.

According to him, there will be submission of nomination forms through the INEC nomination portal between May 29 and June 2.

He said the training of supervisory presiding officers, pre-training assessment, and briefing will hold between June 3 and June 7.

Also, the publication of personal particulars of candidates will be on June 9; while the commencement of campaigns by parties will be from June 10.

Chukwu disclosed that presiding officers and assistant presiding officers will have their pre-training assessment and briefing from June 10 to June 14.

Similarly, the submission of names of polling agents will end by June 11, while campaigns will end on June 18, which is 24 hours before the election on June 20.

He assured that the commission remains committed to conducting a free, fair, credible, inclusive and transparent election.

“We, therefore, call on all political parties and candidates to strictly adhere to the timetable and guidelines issued by the commission,” he added.
