A man identified as Newton Isokpehi, who claims to be a serving officer of the Nigeria Police Force, has sparked outrage after a viral video showed him threatening to shoot and kill anyone who records him while on duty.

Key Highlights:

  • A man identified as Newton Isokpehi allegedly threatened to kill anyone filming him while on duty in a viral video.
  • The man, seen in police uniform, warned civilians against recording police operations and made threats against unnamed senior officers.
  • He claimed to have served 26 years in the Nigeria Police Force and complained about poor welfare and hardship in the force.
  • The video sparked widespread backlash online, with many Nigerians condemning the remarks as dangerous and unprofessional.
  • The police had not released an official statement or confirmed whether an investigation or disciplinary action had begun.

He also threatened unnamed superior officers, alleging that any directive permitting civilians to record police officers would have deadly consequences.

“If anyone is bold enough, just bring your camera… I will clear everybody down,” he said in the clip.

The man further declared that he would “kill” anyone who attempts to film him, adding that “the whole bus, everybody around” would also be affected.

The footage, reportedly recorded in a direct-to-camera format and later deleted from his TikTok page, has triggered widespread criticism online, with many Nigerians describing the remarks as disturbing, dangerous, and unprofessional.

In another part of the video, Isokpehi claimed he had spent 26 years in the police force and pointed to alleged bullet wounds, which he said were sustained during service.

He used the moment to lament what he described as poor welfare and hardship within the Nigeria Police Force.

The man also referenced ongoing reforms under the current Inspector General of Police, claiming that some unpaid insurance and death benefits owed to officers were being processed.

“That oga who gave you the order… he will go and do your burial,” he added while directing threats at unnamed senior officers.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement on the incident, while the man’s status as a serving police officer remained unverified.

The force has also not clarified whether any disciplinary action has been initiated or if an internal investigation is underway.

The incident has further fuelled conversations around police accountability, citizens’ rights to document public officials, and concerns over police conduct in Nigeria.
