Governor Mai Buni has strengthened unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State after successfully leading a peaceful consensus process that produced candidates for the state’s three senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Key Highlights:

  • Mai Mala Buni led a peaceful APC consensus process for Yobe’s 2027 senatorial seats.
  • Ahmad Lawan emerged as APC consensus candidate for Yobe North.
  • Ibrahim Bomai secured the Yobe South ticket, while Buni got Yobe East.
  • The process was completed without protests, court cases, or internal party disputes.
  • APC stakeholders praised the exercise for promoting unity, stability, and reconciliation ahead of 2027.
The exercise, which political stakeholders described as smooth and crisis-free, resulted in the emergence of former Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the APC consensus candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District, Ibrahim Bomai for the Yobe South Senatorial District.

Gov. Buni also emerged as the party’s consensus candidate for the Yobe East Senatorial District.

The consensus arrangement followed a series of consultations, reconciliatory engagements, and strategic meetings involving party elders, aspirants, and stakeholders across the state under the leadership of Gov. Buni.

Observers and party members noted that the process was conducted without protests, litigation, or internal disputes, a development seen as unusual in a political climate often marked by tension and division during party primaries.

Stakeholders commended the governor for promoting dialogue, inclusion, and fairness throughout the consultations, noting that all political blocs and aspirants were carried along before agreements were reached across the three senatorial zones.

Party members described the outcome as a victory for democracy, party loyalty, and political stability, praising aspirants for placing the collective interest of the APC above personal ambitions.

Speaking after the emergence of the candidates, Sen. Lawan, Sen. Bomai, and Gov. Buni expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in them.

They also pledged continued commitment to quality representation and the advancement of Yobe State at the National Assembly.

The leaders further emphasized the need for unity, peaceful political engagement, and sustained support for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political analysts say the peaceful consensus process has further reinforced Gov. Buni’s reputation as a stabilizing force within the APC and positioned the party strongly ahead of the polls.

The development is being viewed as another major political milestone for the Yobe governor, whose leadership has continued to attract commendation for promoting reconciliation, stability, and unity within the APC in the state.
