The Federal Government has unveiled the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI), an AI-powered digital platform designed to improve education planning, strengthen learner tracking, and address the growing challenge of out-of-school children across Nigeria.
Key Highlights:
•Federal Government launches Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI)
•AI-powered platform to track students from enrolment to employment
•NEDI to integrate data from schools nationwide into one system
•National Learner Identity Number to be linked with NIN
•FG says platform will help curb exam malpractice and identity fraud
•Over 32 million learners already captured on the system
•More than 220,000 schools across 21 states integrated into platform
The initiative was officially unveiled on Thursday during the National Stakeholders’ Workshop on NEDI held in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Education described the project as a major reform aimed at creating a unified, transparent, and credible education database for the country.
According to the minister, the platform will integrate records from basic, secondary, technical, vocational, and tertiary institutions into a single cloud-based and AI-enabled system.
The Federal Government explained that the platform would also combine data from major education agencies to improve coordination, planning, and policy implementation within the sector.
Dr. Alausa stated that the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure would serve as a “single source of truth” for Nigeria’s education system, enabling authorities to make informed decisions based on reliable and centralised data.
He further disclosed that the platform’s National Learner Identity Number would be linked to the National Identity Number (NIN), allowing government agencies to track learners from school admission through graduation and eventual employment.
According to him, the innovation is expected to reduce identity fraud, tackle examination malpractice, and curb the activities of illegal “miracle centres” operating within the education sector.
The minister revealed that more than 32 million learners and over 220,000 schools across 21 states have already been captured on the platform.

The Federal Government noted that the project forms part of broader efforts to deploy technology and data-driven systems to build a transparent, inclusive, and globally competitive education sector in Nigeria.
Officials added that the platform would improve access to credible educational statistics, enhance policy planning, and support interventions targeted at reducing the number of out-of-school children nationwide.
The statement announcing the initiative was signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.
