NVBF announces date for 2026 National Division 1, 11 league

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation has announced the commencement of the first phase of the 2026 National Division One and Two League for male and female teams, scheduled to hold from May 23 to June 7, 2026, at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

In a press release signed by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Godspower Odedede, the federation described the championship as another major milestone in its ongoing efforts to strengthen the structure, competitiveness, and nationwide development of volleyball in Nigeria.

According to the statement, the competition, approved by the federation’s league management committee, will bring together volleyball clubs, sports institutions, military organisations, and paramilitary teams from across the country in what is expected to be one of the most competitive domestic volleyball championships in recent years.

  • Nigeria Volleyball Federation will host the first phase of the 2026 National Division One and Two League from May 23 to June 7, 2026.
  • The tournament will take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
  • Participating teams include volleyball clubs, military organisations, paramilitary teams, and sports institutions from across Nigeria.
  • Matches will run from May 24 to June 6, following a technical meeting on May 24 and team arrivals on May 23.
  • The league is designed to improve volleyball standards, discover new talents, and prepare Nigerian teams for continental and international competitions under the leadership of Musa Nimrod.

The official programme released by the federation shows that participating teams are expected to arrive on May 23, while the technical meeting will be held on May 24.

Matches are scheduled to run from May 24 to June 6, with departure fixed for June 7.

The federation noted that the championship would serve as a platform for improving competitive volleyball standards, discovering and nurturing emerging talents, promoting national unity through sportsmanship, strengthening institutional participation in volleyball, and preparing athletes and clubs for continental and international competitions.

The NVBF leadership stated that the league represents more than just a tournament, describing it as a strategic developmental pathway aimed at repositioning Nigerian volleyball for sustainable growth and excellence.

Under the leadership of Musa Nimrod, the federation said it has continued to prioritise reforms and programmes targeted at boosting grassroots participation, institutional competitiveness, and elite volleyball performance across the country.

The federation also acknowledged the support of stakeholders, clubs, government agencies, and sports institutions for their continued contributions to the growth of volleyball in Nigeria.

With Abuja expected to host teams from different parts of the country, the federation expressed confidence that the 2026 National Division 1 and 11 league first phase would deliver exciting competition and further showcase the potential of Nigerian volleyball on the African stage.
