The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected arms dealer and recovered three fabricated AK-47 rifles alongside other dangerous items during a sting operation in Kano metropolis.
Spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
Kiyawa said the operation, conducted around Dandinshe Quarters in Dala Local Government Area on May 9, 2026, led to the arrest of one Umar Danladi Usman, 35, of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a.
He explained that the suspect was intercepted while driving a Honda Accord vehicle with registration number TFA 680 AA and tinted glass.
The police spokesperson said a search conducted on the suspect and the vehicle led to the recovery of three fabricated AK-47 rifles of revolver type, five live cartridges, one AK-47 empty shell, a suspected fake police identity card, three sharp jack knives and a pair of jungle desert boots.
Kiyawa further stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, allegedly procured the fabricated rifles from Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.
“The suspect is currently in police custody while discreet investigation is ongoing to arrest his accomplices and dismantle the supply network,” the statement said.

The command noted that the breakthrough was achieved in line with the policing reforms and intelligence-led operations introduced by the inspector-general of police through the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit.
The commissioner of police commended the operatives for what he described as professionalism and courage displayed during the operation, reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms trafficking, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance public safety across Kano State.
