Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Screening Committee to contest for the Gombe North Senatorial seat ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Gov. Yahaya, who emerged as the APC’s consensus candidate for the senatorial race, appeared before the party’s screening panel on Friday at Plateau House in Abuja, where he was formally cleared alongside other APC aspirants.
The screening exercise was conducted by the APC Senatorial Screening Committee, chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
The exercise also featured serving governors seeking reelection or senatorial seats under the APC platform.
Speaking during the exercise, Prof. Yilwatda praised the governors for their contributions to governance and expressed confidence in their leadership records.
“As a party, we will continue to support all our sitting governors. There is no need subjecting you to rigorous screening again, having previously undergone similar processes and served creditably in office,” he said.

The APC chairman stated that Gov. Yahaya and other aspirants had met all constitutional and party requirements and were therefore cleared to contest.
“Having satisfied all the necessary requirements, you are hereby requested to take a bow and go,” he added.
Gov. Yahaya’s clearance comes amid growing momentum within the APC following his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate for Gombe North.
Political observers say the governor enters the senatorial race with significant political influence, strong grassroots support and a record of infrastructural and developmental projects in Gombe State.
