Veteran entertainer and activist, Charly Boy, has revisited his controversial 2014 confrontation with former Rochas Okorocha during the burial of his father, late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.
Speaking during an interview on The BTC Podcast, Charly Boy defended his decision to interrupt Okorocha’s speech at the funeral, insisting that the former governor attempted to turn the solemn occasion into a political event.
According to him, his actions were not intended as disrespect but as a response to what he considered inappropriate political messaging during a family burial ceremony.
“Mmhmm. Is that a crime? I for don slap am. He wanted to use my father’s burial as a campaign for politics. And you don’t do that. Not when I’m around,” he said.

The activist further stated that he asked Okorocha to leave the venue because he believed the occasion should remain focused on honouring his late father.
“And he knew he was in my territory. Even with all his bodyguards, na my territory him dey,” he added.
The incident occurred in 2014 when Charly Boy publicly seized the microphone from Okorocha while the former governor was addressing mourners during the funeral ceremony.
At the time, the confrontation generated widespread reactions and debate over political conduct at private events, public decorum, and freedom of expression.
Years later, Charly Boy says he remains unapologetic about his actions, maintaining that he would respond the same way if faced with a similar situation again.
