The protem Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Adamawa State, Ibrahim Bebetu, has rejected the outcome of last Saturday’s party congresses, alleging a “brazen” violation of agreed guidelines by a faction he described as recent entrants into the party.
In a statement made available to reporters, the chairman said the exercise was conducted in disregard of resolutions reached with stakeholders and directives issued by the party’s national leadership, including Senator Seriake Dickson.
He accused the group of unilaterally appointing a new state chairman in defiance of an earlier agreement that the protem leadership should remain in place pending the conclusion of a properly conducted congress.
According to him, there was also a clear breach of a power-sharing arrangement that stipulated a 50/50 distribution of party positions between longstanding members and new entrants.
“What transpired amounts to a total disregard for internal democracy and mutual agreements,” he said, adding that the alleged “fake congresses” undermined the credibility of the party in the state.

The chairman further alleged that the process was riddled with procedural irregularities, including the exclusion of duly constituted local congress committees mandated by the party’s national headquarters.
He also claimed that other protem executives were sidelined, with recognition limited to select individuals, in what he described as a violation of inclusiveness and fairness.
Bebetu noted that even his position as protem chairman was reportedly usurped during the exercise, with another individual announced as hi replacement.
The NDC chieftain maintained that the congress lacked the consent of critical stakeholders and did not receive legitimate endorsement.
He, therefore, urged party members, supporters and the public to disregard the outcome of the exercise.
Despite the dispute, he reaffirmed commitment to due process and peaceful conflict resolution, stating that steps were being taken to address the matter through appropriate channels in the interest of party unity.
