A Nigerian father, Ifedayo Adedapo Kolawole Adeyeye, has reportedly gone on the run in the United Kingdom after being mistakenly released from prison while still serving a sentence for abducting his own son.
Adeyeye was serving time at the HMP Pentonville in London, after being convicted for unlawfully taking his son, Laurys N’Djosse Adeyeye, from the child’s mother in France and bringing him to Nigeria in July 2024.
According to reports on Wednesday, prison authorities released him on April 21, despite the fact that he still had an additional 12-month sentence to serve and was also due for extradition to France.
The error was only discovered two days later.
The case stems from a High Court ruling in 2025, where Adeyeye was initially jailed for six months in January for contempt of court after failing to return the child.

He was later handed an additional 12-month sentence on April 20 for further offences linked to the abduction.
However, due to what officials described as a clerical or administrative failure, the second sentence was not properly recorded in the prison system, leading to his premature release.
Authorities are now searching for Adeyeye, who is believed to have absconded following the discovery of the error.
The incident has raised renewed concerns over prison record management and coordination between UK authorities and international extradition processes, especially in cases involving child abduction across borders.
