Former Senator Dino Melaye has criticised Peter Obi over his switch from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing him of avoiding internal party competition.

Melaye in a post on his X handle, accused Obi of avoiding internal party competition, particularly primary elections, and relying on what he described as “easy routes” to political candidacy.

He claimed Obi had previously benefited from direct ticket arrangements in past political contests, referencing his time in APGA, the PDP, and the Labour Party.

Melaye further argued that Obi’s inability to navigate internal party “struggles and crises” raises questions about his capacity to manage national challenges, stating that “Nigeria’s political complexity is more demanding than party disputes.”

He also described the reported NDC move as questionable, alleging the party functions as an extension of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The remarks have intensified online debate, with supporters of Obi pointing out that he has contested internal party processes in the past and questioning Melaye’s own history of party defections.
