The army has tightened the standard for the 2026 captain-to-major written promotion examination, focusing on integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
During a speech at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport,, the Commander of Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Peter Malla urged the examination panel to maintain fairness and discipline, emphasizing the importance of the exercise’s credibility.
“The integrity of this examination process must not be compromised. You are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and fairness in the discharge of your duties,” he said.
He highlighted that the promotion examination is essential for selecting officers for higher roles, and candidates will be thoroughly evaluated on their leadership skills, critical thinking, and ability to tackle contemporary security issues.
“Candidates must be rigorously assessed based on their leadership qualities, critical thinking abilities, and capacity to address contemporary security challenges,” he added

Malla noted that the initiative aligns with the chief of army staff’s goal of creating a more professional, adaptable, and combat-ready force, and he called for strict adherence to the revised Nigerian Army Charter for Promotion Examinations 2022, expressing confidence in achieving a transparent and successful process.
“I have full confidence in your ability to deliver a credible and fair examination. Let your actions reflect the core values of the Nigerian Army,” he said.
Earlier, the institution’s Commandant, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, described hosting the examination as a privilege and assured full logistical support for its smooth conduct.
The move signals the army’s broader efforts to strengthen merit-based advancement and improve leadership quality within its ranks.
