As political activities gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle in Adamawa State, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has moved to reassure stakeholders of a credible and transparent process in determining his successor, even as competition deepens within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at the Government House in Yola, the governor made the pledge while hosting a governorship aspirant, Salihu Mustapha, who formally declared his intention to join the race.

The visit comes at a time when the number of aspirants within the APC continues to rise, signaling what analysts describe as an early and intense battle for political dominance in the state.

Fintiri noted that the growing list of contenders is a positive indicator for democracy, suggesting it would broaden the spectrum of choices available to voters. However, he emphasized that the process must be guided by fairness and integrity to maintain public trust.

“Our commitment is to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants,” the governor said, adding that ongoing consultations with key stakeholders are aimed at producing a candidate who is both credible and acceptable across party lines.

The governor also used the opportunity to caution against personality-driven campaigns, urging aspirants to focus instead on issues that directly impact the lives of citizens. He stressed the importance of grassroots engagement, noting that leadership must remain people-centered.

Despite the mounting political activities, Fintiri maintained that governance remains his top priority as his administration enters its final phase.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to consolidate achievements recorded in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, and social welfare.

In his remarks, Mustapha described his governorship ambition as a continuation of service, aligning himself with the developmental strides of the current administration. He praised Fintiri’s leadership style, referring to him as a mentor and a central figure in what he called the modernization of Adamawa State.

The aspirant pledged to run a campaign rooted in ideas and policy, promising to build on existing gains if entrusted with leadership. He also acknowledged the role of the electorate, expressing appreciation for the support and encouragement he has received so far.

With nearly ten aspirants already in contention, observers note that internal dynamics within the APC are becoming increasingly complex. Party members and stakeholders are closely watching how alliances, consultations, and eventual primaries will shape the political landscape.

As the race unfolds, the promise of a transparent process by the state’s leadership is likely to remain a focal point, particularly in a contest expected to test both party cohesion and democratic credibility in Adamawa State.
