Veteran footballer Ashley Young has confirmed he will retire from professional football at the age of 40, bringing an end to a career spanning more than two decades.

Young began his journey at Watford before making his mark at Aston Villa and later enjoying a trophy-laden spell with Manchester United.

He also featured for Inter Milan and Everton, evolving from an attacking winger into a dependable full-back over the years.

His final stint came with Ipswich Town, where he signed a one-year deal in 2025. However, an injury-hit season limited his appearances, with most coming off the bench.

On the international stage, Young earned 39 caps for the England national football team, scoring seven goals after making his debut in 2007.

Reflecting on his career, Young described it as a dream fulfilled, noting that every journey must eventually come to an end.

He hinted that his side’s final Championship fixture against Queens Park Rangers could mark his last appearance as a professional.

During his career, Young secured major honours including the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League with Manchester United, as well as the Serie A title during his time in Italy.

Despite announcing his retirement, the experienced defender подчеркed that his immediate focus remains on helping Ipswich secure promotion, as they battle closely with rivals like Millwall and Middlesbrough for a return to the top flight.

Young’s retirement marks the close of a distinguished and versatile career, defined by consistency, adaptability, and success at both club and international levels.
