The Nigerian Navy has intensified its clampdown on crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, recording a major breakthrough with the arrest of suspected pipeline vandals in Bayelsa State.

The operation, carried out by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Formoso, took place in the early hours of April 25, 2026, following credible intelligence on activities of a notorious syndicate operating around the Clough Creek axis.

During the raid in Egbama-Angalabiri community, Ekeramo Local Government Area, naval operatives apprehended a suspected ringleader identified as Godwin, popularly known as “Idiot.”

He was reportedly arrested at a night market where he was allegedly extorting traders.

Subsequent efforts to search his residence triggered a confrontation with armed members of the syndicate.

However, the navy’s tactical response quickly subdued the situation, forcing the attackers to flee.

Security operatives recovered communication devices, including handheld radios, and other equipment believed to be used in coordinating illegal operations.

Further intelligence led to the arrest of another suspect, identified as Happiness, along with the recovery of a pump-action firearm.

Both suspects have since been handed over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding national assets, the navy warned individuals involved in economic sabotage to desist or face decisive consequences as operations against oil theft continue across the region.
