Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, attended the wedding ceremony of reality TV personality Cross Okonkwo and his partner, Chinonso Okonkwo, in Abuja.
The high-profile event drew widespread attention for its blend of celebrity glamour and political presence, as well as the personal bond between the former vice president and the groom.
Atiku, who described Cross as his godson, shared details of his attendance in a statement posted on his official social media platforms on Sunday, a day after the wedding on Saturday.
According to him, the wedding followed immediately after his participation in the national opposition summit held in Ibadan.
He revealed that he traveled directly from the summit to the nation’s capital to be part of the celebration.
“Yesterday, upon my arrival from Ibadan after the national opposition summit, I proceeded directly to the wedding of my godson, Cross Okonkwo, and Chinonso Okonkwo, here in Abuja.
“The occasion provided yet another opportunity to reflect the strong bond between our families. I wish the couple a very happy and fulfilling married life,” Atiku wrote.
Beyond the political spotlight, the ceremony gained significant traction online after emotional moments from the event surfaced on social media.
In one widely circulated video, Cross Okonkwo was seen in tears as his wife walked down the aisle with her father, visibly overwhelmed and dabbing his face with a handkerchief.
The ceremony was officiated by popular clergyman Jerry Eze, and attended by several personalities from the entertainment industry, including fellow Big Brother Naija alumni, such as Erica Nlewedim, Liquorose, Beauty Tukura, and Whitemoney.
Another viral clip captured the couple sharing their first kiss, further fueling excitement among fans.
Social media platforms have since been flooded with congratulatory messages, with many users expressing admiration for the couple’s love story, while others reacted humorously to the groom’s emotional display.
