Mayowa Lambe’s N100 Million defamation suit against ex-husband sparks heated reactions

Public discourse has intensified following media personality and OAP Mayowa Lambe’s demand for a public apology and N100 million in damages from her ex-husband, Roby Ekpo, over alleged defamatory statements.

Lambe’s legal team alleges that Ekpo made false claims against her, including accusations of infidelity, financial dependency, and contraceptive use during their marriage, which reportedly ended amicably in May 2025.

They argue that these statements have damaged her reputation and distorted her contributions to the relationship, noting that she allegedly supported Ekpo financially and personally, including assisting with his relocation and fertility-related treatments.

The legal notice is said to have given Ekpo a three-day ultimatum to retract the statements, issue a public apology, and remove related content, or face a N100 million defamation suit.

Ekpo, however, has maintained his position, insisting that he relocated from Calabar to Lagos for the marriage and received financial support while Lambe was based in the United States.

He also referenced emotional strain in the relationship and raised issues surrounding intimacy, claims that have further fueled online debate.

The situation became even more complex after reports emerged that singer Timi Dakolo allegedly offered emotional support to Ekpo during the ongoing controversy.

Online reactions have been sharply divided, with some backing Lambe’s legal action while others believe Ekpo should pursue a counterclaim. The case has since become a trending topic, drawing widespread speculation and heated commentary.

@onu_slim wrote “Roby, listen carefully. Mayowa suing you for N100 million may actually be the best thing that has happened since this story broke. You’ve been the emotional one, crying on podcasts, and sharing too much. Now she has shifted it from emotion to law, and legally, there are consequences. If she remarried while a prior marriage was still valid, that raises serious issues. You don’t need to win the defamation case alone, consider a counterclaim and let the lawyers handle it.”

@dejifagboye said: “What audacity! Someone who is already down and you still want to finish them off. How do people go from love to this level of hostility? If he responds legally, they’ll still vilify him. This might be his chance to properly defend himself.”

@ada_dzone commented:
“She’s exposing herself further. If claims around multiple marriages and immigration-related issues are true, that could carry serious legal consequences in both Nigeria and the U.S.”

@RealMaySano added “This could get messy fast. If records are checked, both sides may have issues to answer for. Once authorities get involved, it won’t just be social media talk anymore.”
