The Delta state senatorial primaries slated for May 20, 2026, may end with the choice of consensus candidates being endorsed for the general elections.

A top official of the party confided in our correspondent that Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas of Delta South, Senator Ned Nwoko of Delta North, and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of Delta Central are the clear favourites.

The source said that the party is scout-ready to reward long-standing members of the party.

In the case of the Delta North senatorial race, the Presidency doubts the loyalty of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as a former presidential running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

As for Delta Central, Senator Ede Dafinone is to be sacrificed for Omo-Agege.

It is an arrangement to compensate Omo-Agege for dropping his governorship ambition to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

In the Delta South Senatorial District, Sen. Joel-Onowakpo is to return to the Senate because of his dedication to the party.

It was also agreed that the Ijaw nation shall produce the next governor in line with the rotation of power in Delta State after Governor Oborevwori.

Some senatorial aspirants are only on the media and not ready to pay the N20 million to buy a form, akin to shooting in the dark.
