Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has shed light on the controversy surrounding activist Omoyele Sowore and businessman BLord, clarifying that Sowore’s actions were not driven by personal loyalty.
Speaking during a viral live session on Instagram, Seun Kuti emphasized that the issue at hand was the conduct of the police, accusing the institution of allegedly taking sides in disputes involving influential figures.
According to him, Sowore’s intervention was focused on challenging systemic bias rather than defending BLord.
“Sowore wasn’t fighting for BLord. He was fighting the Nigerian police to stop taking sides when two celebrities were fighting and using power to favour one person over the other,” he stated.
Kuti further stressed that the situation highlights a broader concern about fairness and justice in Nigeria, noting that abuse of power within institutions can affect anyone, not just public figures.
The controversy stems from the arrest and detention of BLord following a case filed by social media critic VeryDarkMan.

The entrepreneur faced allegations including criminal conspiracy, impersonation, and unauthorized use of identity.
A ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja led to his remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
However, Sowore strongly criticized the situation, describing it as oppression rather than a reflection of justice, and later played a role in facilitating BLord’s release.
Seun Kuti concluded by warning against turning allies into enemies, insisting that the larger fight remains one for justice, fairness, and institutional accountability.
