The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has advised Nigerians, cautioning that not everyone seen wearing a red jacket is a legitimate operative of the anti-graft agency.

In a post shared via its X (formerly Twitter) handle, the commission, while highlighting a supporting image, raised concerns over the increasing rate of impersonation.

The commission emphasized that although its operatives are known for their distinctive red jackets boldly branded “EFCC Nigeria,” members of the public must not rely solely on appearance.

Nigerians are instead advised to request proper identification and verify the authenticity of anyone claiming to represent the agency before complying with any directives.

The advice comes amid growing concerns that impersonators are exploiting the EFCC’s visibility and reputation to deceive unsuspecting citizens, particularly during surprise visits and enforcement-style operations.

The EFCC also reiterated its earlier directive to content creators, including filmmakers and skit makers, to refrain from using official EFCC-branded jackets and insignia without authorization.

According to the agency, such misuse fuels public confusion and creates opportunities for criminals to operate undetected.

The anti-graft body reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the public, noting that anyone caught impersonating EFCC officials will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
