A fresh political storm is brewing in Delta State as the Peoples Democratic Party prepares to involve the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a dispute over control of its accounts and assets following the defection of its former chairman, Solomon Arayenka, to the All Progressives Congress.
State Chairman Peter Adogbejiri Mrakpor disclosed in Asaba that the party is taking steps to recover its bank accounts and secretariat, which it claims remain under the control of the former chairman despite his exit.
Mrakpor described the situation as a serious breach of party rules and due process, insisting that no individual who has defected to another party should retain control over PDP assets.
According to him, the leadership has resolved to pursue both legal and administrative channels to reclaim what it considers its rightful property. He added that the involvement of the anti-graft agency is aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the handling of party funds.
The development has heightened tensions between the PDP and the APC in the state, with political observers warning that the dispute could widen existing cracks within party structures ahead of future elections.
Mrakpor maintained that the former chairman has questions to answer regarding the management of party accounts, stressing that the leadership will not relent until control is fully restored.
