Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected illicit drug dealer and intercepted a large consignment of substances believed to be cannabis in separate operations across the state.
In the first incident, police operatives attached to Ugborikoko Division arrested a tricyclist, Evans Emmanuel Akpowene, along Airport Road in Effurun on April 8 at about noon.
The suspect was intercepted during routine traffic duties after his conduct aroused suspicion. A search of the tricycle, prompted by a strong odour, led to the discovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, including Indian hemp, Canada Loud, Colorado and Monkey Tail.
The suspect, along with the exhibits and the tricycle bearing registration number EFR 173 VD, is currently in custody while investigation is ongoing.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Dragon Patrol Team on April 2 intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna bus along Ozoro/Kwale Road by Ebendo Community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
Police said the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush on sighting the operatives.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 21 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The vehicle and exhibits have been secured, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for drug-related offences.
He urged residents, particularly youths, to refrain from engaging in illicit drug activities and called on members of the public to provide credible information to support ongoing police operations.
