The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the brutal killing of a 35-year-old man, Saleh Ibrahim, an incident that triggered violent reprisals and unrest in Zaki Local Government Area of the state.
Ibrahim, a resident of Sansan Village, was reportedly attacked on March 15, 2026, by unidentified assailants wielding a sharp weapon, suspected to be a cutlass, while riding his motorcycle.
The attackers fled with the motorcycle after killing him.
Police authorities said investigations led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Muhammad Jauro Haladu Yako (28), Muhammad Wito (27), and Ibrahim Muhammad (19), all residents of Alagarno Village in the same local government.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, disclosed that the suspects are currently being investigated for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and disturbance of public peace.
According to him, officers from the Zaki Division responded swiftly after receiving reports of the attack, evacuating the victim to General Hospital, Katagum, where he was confirmed dead.
His remains were later released to his family for burial.
The killing, however, sparked outrage in the community, leading to protests that escalated into violence.

Some aggrieved youths allegedly set houses ablaze in Jama’aren Fulani Village.
During the chaos, a 35-year-old man, Yahaya Haruna, sustained injuries from a bow and arrow attack, further deepening tensions in the area.
Security sources revealed that a joint team of police and military personnel was deployed to contain the situation. At least one police officer and a soldier were injured in the process and have since received medical attention.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the violence and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, urging them to allow due process to take its course.
The command also assured residents of intensified patrols and surveillance across the affected communities to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
