The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stopped three commercial drivers from embarking on trips in Calabar after they tested positive for high alcohol levels.
The Cross River State Sector Commander, Innocent Etuk, disclosed this during a sensitisation exercise conducted at motor parks across the city.
According to him, while the permissible blood alcohol level for drivers is minimal, the affected individuals recorded significantly higher readings of 1.32, 0.72, and 0.56, exceeding acceptable safety limits.
He noted that the drivers were immediately prevented from travelling and that transport companies were directed to provide replacements in line with national road safety guidelines.
Etuk explained that the exercise formed part of the Corps’ efforts to promote safety awareness during the Easter period, when road traffic typically increases.
He also urged passengers to remain vigilant and report reckless or unsafe driving through the FRSC’s toll-free emergency line, 122.

“Passengers have a role to play in ensuring their safety. They should observe drivers’ behaviour and report any form of misconduct for prompt action,” he said.
The commander emphasised that driving under the influence of alcohol significantly impairs judgment and increases the likelihood of road accidents, stressing the need for strict adherence to safety regulations.
He added that public education would remain a continuous priority for the Corps as it works to strengthen road safety awareness nationwide.
