In a dramatic display of political realignment and grassroots mobilization, former Deputy Minority Leader of the Bayelsa State 6th House of Assembly, Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha, widely known as WAD, officially defected to the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) on Monday, March 30, 2026. Joining him was Hon. Selekebina Saboh, alongside more than 10,000 enthusiastic supporters who converged at the Bayelsa State Secretariat of the NDC despite heavy rainfall.
The rain did little to dampen the fervor, as women, youths, and community leaders danced and celebrated in a vibrant show of loyalty and belief in the NDC’s vision. The Mega Defection Rally quickly became a testament to unity, resilience, and renewed political purpose, signaling a new wave of influence for the party in Bayelsa State.
Addressing the crowd, Hon. Dauyegha described the event as a “defining turning point” for himself and his supporters. He emphasized that the defection was more than a political move, describing it as an alignment with a movement built on vision, integrity, and a commitment to the people. “The rain could not deter us because our conviction runs deeper than the storm. This is the beginning of a new chapter for Bayelsa,” he declared.

The rally was energized further by musical performances from Alfred Izonebi, popularly known as JKing, and Barrister S. Smooth, whose performances were described as a highlight and a “reflection ceremony of hope and renewal.”
Hon. Dauyegha also paid tribute to Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the National Leader and Founder of the NDC, praising his dedication to democratic principles and visionary leadership. “Senator Henry Seriake Dickson remains a pillar of leadership and a symbol of political courage. Joining a movement he has built is a tremendous honour,” he said.
Looking to the future, Dauyegha expressed optimism, stating that the turnout signals a growing wave of support that will shape Bayelsa’s political landscape and influence the 2027 general elections. “The momentum is real. Together, we will chart a new course for our state and nation,” he said.
Hon. Selekebina Saboh echoed Dauyegha’s sentiments, reaffirming his commitment to mobilizing grassroots support and expanding the NDC’s presence across the state.
The defectors were officially received by NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, alongside the South-South Coordinator of the party, Bayelsa State Chairman Hon. Dauprebo Ikuromo, Delta State representative Dr. Angiamaowei, and other Bayelsa Working Committee members. Top stakeholders including Hon. Wisdom Fafi, Hon. God Bless Oyinke, Dr. O.O. Osusu, Chief Fyneman Wilson, Chief Suru Oyarede, and Hon. Iwowari Gold witnessed the historic event.
The Mega Defection Rally underscores the growing influence of the NDC in Bayelsa and across Nigeria, as it continues to attract a coalition of leaders, youths, and stakeholders committed to transformative governance.
