Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and motorcycle snatchers, recovering a locally made firearm and other items in separate operations across the state.
The suspects, identified as Julius Godday, 31, and Mzemeke Peter, 28, were apprehended on March 31 at about 7:45 p.m. by officers attached to the Agbor Division during a stop-and-search operation at College Junction, Agbor.
Police said the suspects, who were riding on a motorcycle, attempted to flee upon sighting the patrol team but were chased and arrested.
A search conducted on them led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, linked the suspects to a series of motorcycle snatching incidents in the area. The command also disclosed that the suspects confessed to the crime and are believed to be members of the Eiye confraternity.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Asaba for further investigation and possible prosecution.
In a related development, the police recovered a suspected stolen vehicle loaded with vandalised items in Sapele.
The recovery followed a report by a concerned resident on March 30 at about 1:30 p.m., who alerted the police to a Toyota Sienna bus conveying suspected vandalised materials, including iron cuts and a gas cylinder.
Acting on the tip-off, a patrol team moved to the scene, but the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush on sighting the police.

Commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi John Oyeniyi, urged residents to support the police with credible information.
He assured that the command would sustain its operations to rid the state of criminal elements and advised members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
