President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved key leadership changes in Nigeria’s energy and petroleum institutions. He appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
Professor Aliyu takes over from Ahmed Galadima Aminu. Aminu stepped down to pursue his political ambition. He plans to run for governor in Adamawa State in 2027.
In a related development, the President renewed the appointment of Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz. He will continue as Managing Director and CEO of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). This is his second and final term. The renewal followed a performance review.
Professor Aliyu is an accomplished academic and administrator. He is expected to lead reforms at the PTDF. He will focus on building human capital, research, and innovation. These efforts will support Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

Meanwhile, Engineer Abdulaziz has over 30 years of experience in the power sector. He is credited with major gains in grid stability, more transmission capacity, and modernized infrastructure.
His leadership has also strengthened Nigeria’s participation in regional power initiatives, including the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
President Tinubu urged both appointees to perform their duties with professionalism, integrity, and dedication to national development. He said this aligns with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
