The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Easter.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, extending warm congratulations to Christians across Nigeria and in the diaspora on the occasion.
In his message, the minister called on Nigerians to reflect on and embrace the core values symbolised by Jesus Christ including selflessness, forgiveness, love, and patience.

He further encouraged citizens to uphold unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, noting that these values remain essential to national stability and progress.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to nation-building, Tunji-Ojo stated that government policies continue to focus on driving economic growth, fostering national renewal, and ensuring shared prosperity for all Nigerians.
The statement, issued by Permanent Secretary Magdalene Ajani, concluded with best wishes for a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration.
