A major milestone has been recorded in African football administration as Nigerian football official, Samson Adamu has been appointed as the acting secretary general of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Adamu’s appointment, announced on Sunday, marks the first time a Nigerian has occupied the influential position since CAF was established over 70 years ago.
He succeeds Veron Mosengo-Omba, a Swiss-Congolese administrator who resigned from the role earlier the same day.
Prior to his elevation, Adamu served as CAF’s director of tournaments and events, where he played a key role in organizing several of the continent’s flagship competitions.
His nomination was put forward by the CAF executive committee and subsequently ratified by the congress during its meeting held at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
