Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has set a new ATP Masters 1000 record after surpassing a long-standing mark previously held by Novak Djokovic, following a commanding performance at the Miami Open.
Sinner delivered a clinical display to defeat France’s Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-4 in just 71 minutes, extending his winning streak to 26 consecutive sets at Masters 1000 level. The feat breaks Djokovic’s previous record of 24 consecutive sets, which had stood for more than a decade.
The world number two had earlier equalled the Serbian’s record during his opening-round victory over Damir Džumhur, before moving ahead with another composed and dominant performance.
Speaking after the match, Sinner expressed satisfaction with his form but struck a cautious note, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the sport and the need to maintain focus as the tournament progresses.
The 24-year-old has been in remarkable form in recent months, winning back-to-back Masters 1000 titles, including Indian Wells Open earlier this month and the Paris Masters in November, without dropping a set. His run in Miami keeps him firmly on course for a rare “Sunshine Double,” a feat last achieved by Roger Federer in 2017.

Sinner is set to face American rising talent Alex Michelsen in the round of 16, as he aims to continue his dominant run and further cement his status as one of the sport’s leading figures.
Elsewhere in the tournament, former world number one Daniil Medvedev suffered a surprise exit, losing to Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo in a dramatic three-set encounter, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.
The match was briefly interrupted by an unusual incident involving umpire Mohamed Lahyani, whose chair became entangled with an overhead spider cam. Play was paused as officials resolved the situation before action resumed.
Despite the disruption, Cerúndolo held his composure to seal a notable victory, describing the contest as intense and unpredictable.
The Miami Open continues to deliver high-level competition and unexpected twists, as top players battle for form and momentum in one of the most prestigious tournaments on the ATP calendar outside the Grand Slams.
