The incident involved a Tantita patrol boat and a wooden boat, which triggered a swift response after a distress alert was received.

Personnel from NNS SOROH were immediately mobilised to the scene.

The statement was signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain A.A. Folorunsho.

He revealed that on arrival, the naval team successfully rescued the victims and evacuated them to a nearby medical facility for urgent care.

Moreover, he added that search efforts are still ongoing to locate other possible victims.

The navy said the operation demonstrates its commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring maritime safety.

It further noted its consistent record in similar rescue missions, including saving 16 passengers during a sea robbery incident in the Ibaka–Calabar Channel in March 2026, rescuing 20 crew members from a burning vessel in December 2025, 10 crew members from a distressed vessel in November 2025, and 17 kidnapped victims in October 2025.

The navy reaffirmed its readiness to deploy personnel and assets swiftly in response to emergencies across the nation’s waterways.
