The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of Operation UDO KA for their sustained offensive against criminal elements linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network in Nigeria’s South-East.

The commendation was conveyed during a Special Sallah Luncheon held at Mother Valley in Orsu Local Government Area, a location previously identified as a major stronghold of insurgent groups. The message was delivered on behalf of the Army Chief by the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Valentine Okoro, and later confirmed in a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.

Shaibu praised frontline troops for their resilience and professionalism, noting that recent operations have led to the dismantling of several criminal networks and the clearing of fortified hideouts across the region. He observed that these gains were achieved despite persistent threats posed by improvised explosive devices, reflecting improved combat readiness and operational efficiency.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its constitutional mandate of defending the nation’s territorial integrity and safeguarding lives and property, stressing that the force remains disciplined and focused in its mission.

The Army Chief also lauded the General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, for strengthening collaboration with other security agencies and local communities. He said such coordination has enhanced intelligence gathering and contributed significantly to recent successes.

Extending goodwill to wounded personnel, Shaibu assured them of continued institutional support, in line with the Army’s “Soldier First” philosophy, which prioritises troop welfare and recovery.

He further reiterated the Army’s resolve to consolidate its gains and restore lasting peace in the South-East, urging residents to support security efforts by providing credible and timely information.

The Army said the renewed momentum underscores ongoing efforts to degrade criminal networks and stabilise communities affected by insecurity across the region.
