The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of three police officers and a local vigilante leader in a brutal bandit attack in Tse Kwe Village, Tordamisa Akate Ward, Donga Local Government Area.
According to a statement released by the command, the incident unfolded on Wednesday following a distress call from a resident reporting an armed incursion in the village. A rapid response team, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Donga and reinforced by Special Force operatives, was immediately dispatched to restore order and protect residents.
“Tragedy struck during a deadly confrontation between the police and suspected bandits, resulting in the deaths of three officers and the 60-year-old vigilante group chairman, Nutsa Tyav,” the statement said.
Police Constable Samuel Bawa, initially reported missing, was later discovered dead in a nearby bush during search operations. The other officers who lost their lives were Corporal Raphael Danjuma and Police Constable Ebenezer Daniel.

Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enepen Isokpan Otimenyin, expressed deep shock over the incident, describing the fallen officers and vigilante leader as heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to their communities and the nation.
She reassured the families of the deceased that their sacrifices would not be in vain.
The commissioner further stated that security forces have been reinforced in the area, with ongoing operations to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Residents have been urged to remain calm and provide credible information to assist in the investigation.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of Taraba State, where communities continue to face threats from armed bandits.
