Operatives of the Anti-Vandal Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Rivers State Command, have uncovered a dump site in igwuruta, Ikwerre local Government Area warehousing an “unquantifiable” quantity of substances suspected to be stolen crude oil from vandalised pipelines, stored in GP tanks.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, Ihemnacho Umeadi, said the discovery took several days of credible intelligence gathering before a subsequent, swift raid of the crime scene.
The statement said State Commandant, Dr Joachin Okafor, who visited the crime scene, for an on the spot assessment, reiterated the zero tolerance of illegal bunkery activities in whatever guise, warning that the Corps is on top of it’s game and will leave no stone unturned, in tracking and arresting perpetrators, no matter how highly placed.

The Commandant decried the adverse effect of economic sabotage on the well-being of the Nation and the negative environmental consequences of illegal bunkery activities to our biodiversity.
He therefore warned vandals to steer clear of Rivers State or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
The Commandant further directed the Intelligence Department to launch a comprehensive investigation to identify the source of the exhibit and the perpetrators behind the crime, for possible arrest and prosecution.
