Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, have directed troops in the North-East to intensify offensive operations against insurgents following recent suicide bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The senior military officers arrived in Maiduguri for an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI, less than 24 hours after the attacks within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.

Addressing officers and soldiers at Maimalari Cantonment, the CDS commended troops for their resilience and sustained pressure on insurgents, urging them to remain focused on their mission. He directed commanders to scale up offensive operations, strengthen intelligence gathering, and adopt proactive strategies to dominate the operational environment.

He also assured personnel of continued support from Defence Headquarters to ensure the effective prosecution of the counter-insurgency campaign.

Speaking separately, the army chief praised the dedication of troops and called for renewed efforts to deny insurgents the opportunity to regroup or launch further attacks, especially during sensitive periods such as Ramadan.

He further pledged additional resources and logistical support to enhance operational efficiency and improve force protection across the theatre.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander briefed the visiting chiefs on ongoing operations, operational challenges, and recent gains. He disclosed that over 200 террорист fighters had been neutralised in recent engagements, with several others injured, significantly weakening their capacity.

Despite some challenges, he noted that troops have maintained dominance in the battlespace through sustained offensives and professionalism.

The commander reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to intensify operations aimed at eliminating insurgent threats and restoring peace and stability in the North-East region.
