Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has pledged to provide office accommodation for the South-South Zonal Headquarters of the Tax Ombud Office, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building a fair, transparent, and efficient tax system.
The Governor made the pledge on Thursday while receiving the Tax Ombud/Chief Executive Officer of the Office of the Tax Ombud Nigeria, Dr. John Nwabueze, and his delegation at Government House, Asaba.
Oborevwori described the establishment of the zonal office in Delta as a significant milestone, noting that it reflects the state’s growing importance in Nigeria’s fiscal landscape. He assured that the state government would provide immediate office space to enable the smooth take-off of the Ombud’s operations in the region.
“We are committed to supporting this initiative by making available suitable office accommodation in Delta State. This aligns with the Federal Government’s vision of ensuring fairness and efficiency in tax administration,” the Governor stated.
He emphasized that the presence of the Tax Ombud Office would enhance dispute resolution, protect taxpayers’ rights, and boost public confidence in the system, adding that these goals are consistent with Delta’s ongoing tax reforms.
Oborevwori also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Tax Ombud Office under the 2025 tax reforms, describing it as a critical step toward strengthening accountability in Nigeria’s revenue framework.
The Governor reiterated that his administration is aligning with the National Tax Reform Law of 2025 and is working toward repealing the Delta State Internal Revenue Service Law of 2020, alongside plans to introduce a harmonised taxes and levies law in 2026.

Earlier, Nwabueze expressed appreciation for the Governor’s support and warm reception, noting that Delta’s designation as the South-South Zonal Headquarters of the Tax Ombud Office underscores the state’s economic relevance.
He said the Office of the Tax Ombud, established under the Joint Tax Board Establishment Act, 2025, would serve as an independent platform for addressing tax-related complaints and promoting transparency across the region.
Nwabueze expressed confidence that with the state government’s backing, the zonal office would effectively deliver on its mandate of fostering a more accountable and business-friendly tax environment.
