The U.S President, Donald Trump is reviewing the possibility of deploying thousands of U.S. troops to the Middle East as tensions with Iran continue to escalate into a third week of conflict.

According to a report by Reuters published on March 18, 2026, senior U.S. officials are weighing several military options aimed at reinforcing regional security. These include positioning forces to safeguard critical waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz and areas near Kharg Island, a vital center for Iran’s oil exports.

Despite these considerations, sources indicate that a full-scale ground invasion into Iran is not currently anticipated. No final decision has been made, and officials stress that such a move would carry significant military and political risks.

So far, U.S. efforts have focused primarily on air power, naval operations, and defensive strategies designed to protect global energy flows and counter Iranian capabilities. The potential use of ground troops remains a sensitive and high-stakes option.

The developments highlight ongoing debate within Washington over how far the U.S. should go in deepening its involvement, as the conflict continues to impact international stability and global energy markets.
