The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has resumed full train operations along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor following a disruption earlier this week.

Managing Director Kayode Opeifa confirmed the development in a post shared on X on Wednesday, assuring passengers that enhanced safety and operational measures have been put in place after the incident on March 16, 2026.

He stated that normal services have been reinstated through the corporation’s prompt response, encouraging commuters to resume travel with confidence.

Opeifa also noted the successful operation of the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) return trip from Rigasa in Kaduna State on March 17, which he said marked a return to regular service. He acknowledged the support of HRH Alhaji Ishaq Ibrahim Tanko, the Hakimin Idu District Head in Abuja, during the process.

The NRC boss emphasized that the quick intervention of the agency helped minimise disruption while reaffirming its commitment to passenger safety and reliable service delivery.

The corporation added that the smooth resumption of the AKTS service signals a restoration of normalcy for commuters along the busy rail route.

The disruption was linked to an earlier incident that occurred at about 9:16 a.m. near Asham Station on the Abuja–Kaduna line. The affected train, identified as KA2, had departed Rigasa and made a scheduled stop at Jere before continuing its journey.

Reports indicated that after leaving Jere, where an additional rear locomotive had been attached, the locomotive detached while the train was in motion, moved forward, and collided with the rear section of the train.

Although no fatalities were recorded, several passengers sustained injuries and were given immediate medical attention before the train proceeded to Idu Station in Abuja.
