Late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel has sharply criticised U.S. President Donald Trump over reported threats directed at television networks amid coverage of rising tensions involving Iran.
Speaking on his programme, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel accused Trump of attempting to use regulatory influence to pressure media organisations he disagrees with. His remarks were in response to comments made by Brendan Carr, a senior official at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Carr had criticised broadcasters for what he described as “hoaxes and news distortions,” warning that networks must “correct course” as they approach licence renewal periods. He also maintained that broadcasters are required to operate in the public interest and suggested that sections of the media had “earned” the label of fake news.
Kimmel rejected the claim, arguing that the phrase has been politicised. In a pointed on-air response, he mocked Carr’s position and suggested he was acting in alignment with Trump’s stance, raising concerns about potential attempts to intimidate media outlets through regulatory channels.

The comedian also took aim at what he described as efforts to silence critical voices, joking that journalists might be expected to follow the style of social media personalities such as Jake Paul, referencing a recent interview involving Trump.
The exchange marks another chapter in the long-running feud between Kimmel and Trump, which has often unfolded publicly through televised monologues and political commentary.
The development comes at a time of renewed friction between Trump and major broadcasters, including previous disputes involving network affiliates linked to Kimmel’s show.
