Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has hosted members of the Muslim community in the state to a special Ramadan Iftar at the Government House in Uyo, describing the holy month as a period for reflection, compassion, and unity.
Speaking during the breaking of the Ramadan fast, the governor commended the Muslim faithful for their industrious nature and their peaceful coexistence with host communities across the state.
He emphasized that development in any society depends on the collective contributions of both residents and visitors.
Gov. Eno expressed appreciation to members of the Muslim community who have lived in the state for decades, noting that their long stay reflects both their love for Akwa Ibom and the welcoming nature of the state.
He remarked that communities thrive when people from diverse backgrounds live together harmoniously, adding that the presence of a mixed population is often a sign of growth and progress.
The governor also thanked the Muslim community for their support during the 2023 gubernatorial election, recalling that many of them worked tirelessly to ensure his victory at the polls.
He assured them that his administration would continue to support the programmes and activities of the Islamic community and encouraged them to remain actively involved in government initiatives.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the League of Imams, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Abubakar Sadiq, and the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Council for Islamic Affairs, Ibrahim Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the governor for maintaining a cordial relationship with the Muslim community in the state.

They noted that Gov. Eno had been hosting them for Iftar long before he became governor and prayed for God’s continued blessings upon him and the state.
Other speakers, including the Senior Special Assistant on Non-Indigenes’ Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbole, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Arewa Community, Ibrahim Iliya, highlighted the peaceful coexistence among people of diverse backgrounds living in Akwa Ibom State.
They also commended the state government for sustaining peace and security, noting that while some parts of the country face security challenges, Akwa Ibom continues to enjoy stability, unity, and hospitality.
