Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have arrested a suspect, Ifeanyi Mba, over an alleged N10 million land fraud in Enugu State.
The anti-graft agency said the suspect was arrested following a petition alleging that he collected N10 million from a victim for the purchase of a piece of land said to be located at Plot 677, Owo/Premier Layout in the Ogui Nike community of Enugu.
According to the petitioner, he later discovered that unknown persons had commenced development on the land he paid for.
The petitioner further stated that when he confronted the suspect over the development on the property, he was informed that the land allegedly belonged to the government.

All attempts made by the petitioner to recover his money reportedly failed as the suspect allegedly went incommunicado.
In a statement issued on Monday by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, preliminary investigations by the commission revealed discrepancies in the land description.
The commission said its findings showed that no layout bearing Plot 677 Owo/Premier exists within government-acquired areas, noting that Owo Layout and Premier Layout are two separate layouts.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the EFCC said.
