Arsenal F.C. survived a major scare to defeat Mansfield Town F.C. and secure qualification for the next round of the FA Cup after a tense fifth-round encounter on Saturday.
The Premier League side struggled against their lower-league opponents but eventually claimed a narrow 2-1 victory to keep their domestic cup hopes alive.
Mansfield Town produced a spirited performance and shocked the visitors when they took an early lead, sending the home fans into celebration.
Arsenal, however, gradually regained control of the match, equalising before halftime and pushing for the winner in the second half.
The Gunners eventually found the decisive goal late in the match, sparking relief among the travelling supporters.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted after the match that his team were pushed to the limit by their determined opponents.
“Credit to Mansfield, they made it extremely difficult for us,” Arteta said.
“This is what the FA Cup is about teams fighting with everything they have. We had to stay patient and show character to get through.”
Arteta acknowledged that his side had to dig deep after conceding early but praised his players for maintaining composure and eventually finding a way to win.

Mansfield manager Nigel Clough said he was proud of his players despite the defeat, describing their performance as one that showed courage and determination.
“We gave a fantastic account of ourselves against one of the biggest clubs in England,” Clough said. “The players worked incredibly hard and pushed them all the way.”
He added that the match would serve as a confidence boost for the squad as they continue their campaign in the lower divisions.
The result means Arsenal progress to the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup, keeping alive hopes of lifting the historic trophy for a record-extending number of times.
The North London club will now turn their attention back to the Premier League while awaiting the draw for the next round of the FA Cup.
For Mansfield Town, the defeat brings their impressive cup run to an end, but their spirited display against top-flight opposition won admiration from fans and pundits alike.
