Afrobeats sensation Rema has shared insight into his pre-show routine, revealing that alcohol, cigarettes, and prayer are part of how he prepares before stepping onto the stage.
In an interview with Dazed during Milan Fashion Week, where he walked the runway for Diesel, the singer explained that the ritual helps him settle into the right mindset before facing an audience.
“A little Tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue,” Rema said.
The “Calm Down” hitmaker emphasized that performing live is significantly more intense than modelling, pointing out that concerts demand stamina, breath control, and continuous engagement with fans.

“Performing has a lot to do with your breath work, and you have to keep the crowd going,” he said, highlighting the physical demands of his stage performances.
He noted that while fashion events have their own pressures, commanding thousands of fans during a concert requires a deeper level of mental and physical preparation.
Outside of performing, Rema disclosed that he has recently been inspired by Sudanese cultural live music.
“I have been listening to a lot of Sudanese cultural live music,” he added.
Although he described himself as disciplined about his craft, the singer admitted that smoking cigarettes remains his biggest vice.
