Operatives of the Scorpion Squad of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers over a January 2026 attack in Abuja’s highbrow Asokoro District that left a security guard dead.
The suspects, identified as 46-year-old Amaechi Edemba and 48-year-old Kelechi Nwokoro, were apprehended between February 12 and 19 following what police described as an intelligence-led operation.
Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, in a statement on Thursday, said the case began after a complaint that armed men broke into a residence in Asokoro, murdered a guard on duty, and carted away cash, a vehicle and other valuables.
Preliminary investigations, police said, revealed that Nwokoro had previously worked as a security guard for the complainant but was disengaged in January 2026 over alleged negligence while on duty.

Police authorities alleged that, nursing resentment over his dismissal, Nwokoro conspired with Edemba and recruited four other accomplices from neighbouring Nasarawa State to execute the robbery.
Leveraging his alleged familiarity with the premises, Nwokoro reportedly disabled the CCTV system and cut off electricity supply before leading the armed gang into the house.
The attackers were said to have been confronted by the on-duty security guard, Ishaku Marcus, who was overpowered and then strangled to death before fleeing with cash, jewellery, laptops, wrappers and a silver Toyota Camry, among other items.
Police said the stolen vehicle and other exhibits have since been recovered.
Efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining members of the gang, who are currently at large.
