The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured three chairmanship seats in the just-concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) pulled off a major win in Gwagwalada.
Results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show APC candidates sweeping Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, and Kwali, leaving PDP to celebrate victory in Gwagwalada.
Collation is still ongoing in the remaining two councils.
In AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu of the APC polled 40,295 votes, trouncing the ADC candidate with 12,109 votes. PDP lagged behind with 3,398 votes.
Also, in the Bwari Area Council, Joshua Ishaku of the APC clinched the seat with 18,466 votes, while ADC managed 4,254 votes and ZLP secured 3,515 votes.

Kwali: Daniel Nuhu of APC emerged winner with 17,032 votes, defeating PDP’s Haruna Pai who scored 8,575 votes.
For the Gwagwalada Area Council election, the PDP’s Mohammed Kasim stunned APC’s Yahaya Shehu, polling 22,165 votes against APC’s 17,788 votes.
Smaller parties, including SDP, NNPP, and YPP, recorded marginal tallies.
The Gwagwalada contest was particularly keen, with 207,577 registered voters but only 46,294 voters were accredited.
INEC declared 43,960 valid votes, while 1,521 ballots were rejected.
The Returning Officer, Philip Akpen described the exercise as “peaceful and orderly,” noting that voting and collation proceeded without major disruptions.
With APC holding three councils and PDP making inroads in Gwagwalada, attention now shifts to the final two councils yet to be declared.
The outcome will shape the balance of power in the FCT ahead of future national contests.
