President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate to approve the nomination of retired Admiral Jamila Abubakar as the national commissioner representing Adamawa State at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This request was made in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read during the Tuesday plenary.
In the letter, Tinubu stated that the nomination aligns with Section 154 of the 1999 Constitution and urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process.
Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on INEC for further examination, with the committee expected to report back within a week.

In another letter, the president also sought Senate confirmation for Ambassador Ismail Yusuf as chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
Tinubu noted that this nomination adheres to Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act 2026 and again requested lawmakers to consider it promptly.
The Senate president referred this second request to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, which is also expected to provide a report within a week.
