The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has expressed sympathy with traders and other victims affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singa Market in Kano State, describing the incident as painful and distressing.
In a statement issued on behalf of the forum, its Chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, said the inferno was particularly heartbreaking as it occurred only weeks after a similar fire incident in the same market, compounding the losses and emotional trauma of already vulnerable traders.
The NSGF chairman lamented the recurring cases of market fires across Northern Nigeria, noting that such disasters continue to destroy livelihoods, disrupt economic activities and plunge many families into hardship.
Gov. Yahaya stressed that the persistent nature of the incidents requires urgent and comprehensive preventive strategies, including the adoption of technology-driven safety measures by both state and federal authorities.
He advocated for the deployment of modern fire detection and suppression systems, improved market planning and infrastructure, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and sustained public enlightenment campaigns targeted at traders and market operators.

Gov. Yahaya extended the forum’s condolences to the Kano State government and residents, as well as to individuals and business owners who suffered losses in the incident.
He prayed for strength and restoration for the victims, urging them not to lose hope despite the devastating setback.
