The Essa/Ichie Traditional Ruling Council of Amasiri Autonomous Community in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has vowed to sanction any indigene who attacks Governor Francis Nwifuru on social media in accordance with the customs and traditions of the community.
In a communiqué issued after a meeting held on Monday, the council, the highest traditional authority in Amasiri, said it condemns what it described as “vexatious social media abuses” directed at the governor.
The council warned sons and daughters of the community to desist from further online attacks, stressing that violators would face consequences under Amasiri customs and tradition.
It reiterated the community’s commitment to maintaining peaceful relations with neighbouring communities.
“We, the Essa/Ichie Traditional Ruling Council of Amasiri Community, state categorically that we strongly reiterate our support for the governor and direct our people to desist from further social media attacks on our dear governor or face the consequences under our custom and tradition,” the statement read.
Also, the council expressed appreciation to Gov. Nwifuru for what it described as his decisive efforts to restore lasting peace in Amasiri and neighbouring communities.

Appealing for calm, unity, and restraint, the traditional council urged residents to allow constituted authorities and relevant stakeholders address ongoing concerns through established channels.
The council cautioned that persistent petitions and public statements against the governor could escalate tensions and undermine behind-the-scenes efforts aimed at achieving peace and justice.
It stressed the need for order, discipline, and respect for constituted authority, especially at a critical time for the community.
It assured residents that traditional institutions are actively engaging public authorities and security agencies to ensure that the truth is established and enduring peace restored.
The leaders further called on the people to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of peaceful resolutions, expressing confidence that ongoing engagements would yield positive outcomes.
The communiqué also condemned the recent killing in the neighbouring Okporojo community, describing the act as gruesome and unacceptable.
“We vehemently condemn and frown at the gruesome killing in our neighbouring community, Okporojo.
“The Traditional Ruling Council of Amasiri fully supports efforts to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act,” the statement added.
“As a clan, we condemn any act of killing or shedding of human blood under any guise and will take necessary steps to prevent a recurrence.
“We shall support any approach the government of Ebonyi State deems fit to secure lasting peace between Amasiri, Oso Edda, and other neighbouring communities.
“We are committed to partnering with the government in finding a lasting solution to the current impasse.”
