The Governor of Taraba State has directed an immediate halt to the illegal sale or possession of government land allocated to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, ordering a comprehensive investigation into the alleged misconduct.
The directive, conveyed on Friday through the Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS), cautioned all MDAs against converting land earmarked for official use into private ownership.
In a statement signed by the Director-General of TAGIS, Dr. Joshua Maaku Mark, the Governor reaffirmed that lands assigned to government institutions are strictly for institutional purposes and must not be sold, transferred, or otherwise alienated by civil servants, public officials, or their associates.
The statement instructed all MDAs to immediately cease any transaction involving the sale, lease, transfer, or disposal of government land under their control. It further ordered that any ongoing or pending transactions be suspended without delay and reported to the appropriate authorities.

As part of the crackdown, Ministries and agencies have been mandated to initiate internal investigations into suspected cases of unlawful sale, lease, conveyance, or transfer of government-owned land to private individuals. MDAs are also required to compile a detailed list of staff members and third parties implicated in such transactions for necessary administrative and legal action.
Additionally, all Ministries have been directed to submit accurate and up-to-date records of government land in their possession to TAGIS to ensure proper documentation and integration into the agency’s database.
Reiterating its commitment to protecting public assets, the Governor’s Office emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in land administration across the state.
Dr. Mark conveyed the Office’s highest regards to Ministries and Agencies while stressing the importance of strict compliance with the directive.
